The Greg Norman designed, Doonbeg Golf Club Course is the site of the sixth Palmer Cup held July 8-12, 2002. Nominated by many as one of the finest golf courses in the world, the idea of locating a golf course in Doonbeg was initiated by Doonbeg Community Development.

   In 1995 Doonbeg Community Development made application to ERDF for funding to bring a golf course into the area to enhance local tourism.  Once the funding was approved by Europe, Shannon Development made contact with golf course developers in Europe and America to undertake this project.  In 1998 the developers were underway and the rest is beautiful, green, Atlantic Ocean-surrounded history!
