Doonbeg Tidy
Towns Report
Doonbeg Tidy Towns is a sub committee of Doonbeg Development and is run on a
voluntary basis. Funded by Doonbeg development, Doonbeg Foundation and
Collections. The Committee was set up to improve the presentation of the
village and all approach roads, to give a lasting impression to both locals
and tourist alike. We are delighted to report that in 2005, Doonbeg won
their category and are 5th in the overall results in the county. Although
our committee is small, we work hard in conjunction with FAS and RSS
scheme. To all involved, we would like to say a big “Thank you”. We welcome
new volunteers and any time.

Christmas
Lighting
Once again, the Christmas lights and the Santa school visit was an enormous
success. While the bulk of the cost if funded by Doonbeg Development it is
generously assisted by the Doonbeg Foundation and a church gate collection.
The
impact of the Christmas decorations and lights in creating a seasonal
festive atmosphere is noted by locals, young and old, and visitors to the
village. Each of the five parish schools plus the Naionra is visited by
Santa and his helpers on the especially decorated Santa– mobile. The
excited and enthusiastic reception is followed by presentation of individual
gifts and carol singing. Appreciation of this event is always acknowledged
by teachers, pupils and parents. |

Heritage
Doonbeg

heritage and has a
future long term ambition to provide a built heritage centre. This centre
would showcase local heritage and would include social history, folklore,
music and art for the community.

Co-ordinated by the County Development Board and invites all community
groups to participate. Doonbeg Development has involved in this plan and
has undertaken to erect place names for the townslands in the locality. The
project members are currently working on suitable design and materials.

Bealaha
Renewal Group
Formed in August 2005, aiming to enhance the village of Bealaha and
surrounding areas including “Kennedys Cross”, “The Locht”, “Moroneys turn”
and the graveyards of Farrihy and Kiltenane. We have two workers under the
RSS scheme and work has commenced repairing the wall surrounding Kiltenane
graveyard. Thanks to Doonbeg Development, we have inherited their own
lawnmower, and have since purchased a strimmer and other tools etc with
funds received from ‘Doonbeg Development and from Doonbeg Foundation. We
are currently working on a plan to apply for “An Clar” funding to enhance

The Tullaher Bog Project
In the mid 1990’s a major survey was carried out on Tullaher Bog. As one of
the few remaining raised bogs in Ireland and with a unique habitat it was
considered to be of major significant as part of our heritage. In more
recent times it has been granted the Special Area of Conversation (SAC)
designation. Doonbeg Development continues with their efforts to preserve
this unique natural asset to the community. A recently formed sub-group
have undertaken the task of marking it more accessible as an are to be
enjoyed by the local people and visitors. This project will entail
upgrading the access to the bog and will provide signage both at the
entrances and within the bog itself. It will also make available
information on wild life habitation.

the sewerage line to cater for the Mountrivers area. To this end, Ray O’
Grady and Associates have been contracted to report on the viability of such
a scheme. In the present climate, where there is a greater awareness of
environmental issues and the possibility of new legislation dealing with
existing private sewerage treatments. Such a project would greatly benefit
the area. The Mountrivers Sewerage Group was set up in June ‘05 to discuss
