  • Sponsors of the FAS Community Employment and Social Assist Schemes for Doonbeg Village and GAA Park
  • Opened the Community Development Office

  • Secured grant aid from FÁS for a feasibility study on Tullaher Bog and Lough as a preserved natural resource
  • Installed floodlighting  in the Church grounds and to highlight Doonbeg Castle

  • Purchased the fishing rights to Doonbeg River
  • Produced promotional brochures for the area and a local telephone directory
  • Initiated idea of a golf course project at Doughmore Sandhills
  • First group to approach Shannon Development to make a viable case for the support of the golf project
  • Actively negotiated in relation to the planning process for the golf course at Doughmore Sandhills
  • Rallied the local community to support the golf course project by attending the Dúchas oral hearing
  • At the request of the golf course developers and Shannon Development, delegation went to EU Headquarters in Brussels and successfully negotiated terms in relation to £2.4 million grant aid for the golf course project
  • The Golf Sub Committee secured commitment from the golf course developers, Kiawah Resort Associates on four conditions of support:
  • Local employment for construction and operation
  • Upgrade of sewerage system to treatment plant level and increasing the capacity of existing system at an estimated cost of £400,000
  • Local membership of the golf club, which was not originally on offer
  • Provision of replacement public road and a 70 space car park for public access to Doughmore Beach
  • Elected Mayor for Doonbeg representing Doonbeg Community Development Limited
  • Secured funding from the Department of the Marine for the development of the harbour at Doonmore Pier
  • Initiated the Planning for Real process in Doonbeg
  • Established Doonbeg Lotto and is one of three stakeholder organisations in its operation
  • Paid for church car park resurfacing in June 2004 in co-operation with Clare County Council
  • Campaigned and achieved the upgrading of the Doonbeg Sewerage Scheme
  • Meet with Clare County Council senior management to discuss the ongoing development of Doonbeg parish
  • Secured grant aid from Clare County Council under the Village Renewal Scheme for the extended landscaping of Lakeside Park and restoration of the riverbank in the village
  • Organise Christmas festivities including the lighting of the village and a party for the school children of the parish
  • Submissions of plans to County Clare and West Clare Development as well as Mid West Regional Planning Guidelines
  • Compiled and submitted professional independent development plan for Doonbeg
  • Election manifesto issued to candidates in local and national elections
