Doonbeg Community Development Association, as it was originally titled when it began in 1981, was formed to promote awareness of the needs of the parish and to provide a means to fill those needs.
On the 23rd February, 1990 the Association became Doonbeg Community Development Limited (Registration No.155476) as a company limited by guarantee. This visionary action was taken so that the organisation could maximise opportunities for grant aid for projects that would benefit the wider community. It also added legitimacy to the organisation in that Doonbeg Community Development Limited is registered with the Companies Office and therefore must implement proper governing procedures with audited accounts and an elected board of directors.
Doonbeg Community Development Limited was formed with the following mission statement:
“To promote, arrange, organise, carry out and direct ventures of all kinds in order to improve and further the local and surrounding areas of Doonbeg and all other places as the company may from time to time decide.”
The main aims and objectives of Doonbeg Community Development Limited are:
1. To carefully and sensitively plan and co-ordinate the development of the area’s natural resources, for wealth and job creation
2. To encourage the young people to remain within the area by offering job prospects in a social environment which is in line with their expectations
3. To develop and promote an enterprise culture within the area
4. To promote social activities in the Parish
