tidy towns

FairgreenDoonbeg Tidy Towns is a sub-committee of Doonbeg Community Development.  There are approximately 18 voluntary members and are assisted by the FÁS workers.  There is a tremendous level of voluntary involvement from committeemembers, local residents, business people and school children for village clean-ups, planting, weeding, watering, painting and litter control.  This year, Doonbeg Golf Club provided us with tremendous practical advice and suggestions on planting schemes etc.
Every year the committee undertakes new projects to help enhance the village and surrounding areas.  These include:Fairgreen Park

  1. The notice boards placed in the village and corca area to inform people ofthe wildlife that habitat in the locality;
  2. Removed unsightly gabions from the river and replaced them with a vortex weir to create a waterfall effect and installed an improved fishing area;
  3. Cleared, leveled, and reseeded the area around the old Curate’s house to prepare it for development for social housingLakeside Park.
  4. Developed two Doonbeg Looped Walks in conjunction with Fáilte Ireland;
  5. Planted Boston Ivy at the bridge to help conseal unsightly pipe over time;
  6. Cleared and restored the natural “Watering Hole” on the Rhynagonaught Road;
  7. Area in Church grounds planted with flowers to give a blast of colour;
  8. Enhancement of Riverside Park and erection of currach & plaque outlining fishing traditions in the locality;
  9. Completed enhancement of Newtown Cross flower-beds.
